I've been blogging, posting lesson plans and podcasting every week for just over a year here at Free Talk TEFL, and I've pretty much covered the basics of teaching English In Japan as a self-employed teacher.
There are a lot of other things I want to be getting on with like:
collating and adding to the best posts to make a how-to-teach-English-in-Japan book
making an online TEFL Certificate course for newbie teachers
publishing a series of new low-priced textbooks with videos for students and teachers
turning my Hana Walker mysteries into something every junior high school in Japan could use
creating an English-school-in-a-box kit for the new self-employed teacher to just get started
working on my art projects completely unrelated to teaching
publishing my third novel that seems to have disappeared down the back of the sofa.
And I feel like there is something deeper that I can write about if I just had a little more time… So, here's the radical idea: From now on… I'm only going to post when I have something worth saying, rather than posting “because it is Wednesday".
There will be one more pre-recorded new podcast this Friday, but after that there will be some posts, lesson plans and podcasts, just not on a schedule.
You may have some questions…
What do you I have to do? The answer is… nothing. Just stay subscribed and every now and then I'll email you something related to teaching English in Japan for the self-employed that I think is worth your time.
What if I’m desperate for a lesson plan? They are all free here sifted into categories for kindergarten, elementary, junior high, high school and adult students. I'll add more when I publish some more up-to-date books.
What if I need teaching or business advice? All the "Bulletin" posts can be found here. And you can get my roundup of the best of one year’s worth of blogs, podcasts and lesson plans here.
What if I need to contact you? You can always drop me an email by replying to any email I send you or posting a comment on any post, even old ones.
What if I need help falling asleep? The Free Talk Staffroom podcasts are all here. I'll post more when I have something new to say. Quietly.
What if I just can’t live without regular posts from you? Seek professional help, or if you want to subscribe to more of my stuff for free, there’s my art substack where I post my original paintings and sketches (no AI rubbish allowed), so far, once every Saturday, or my long-running monthly newsletter (since 2016?), Our Man in Abiko, which comes out on the first Sunday of every month and will continue as long as I do.
So, to recap, this is not the end, just an end to regular posting.
See you in a bit.
