Teacher’s notes and lesson plan
The objective of this 40-minute lesson is to practise making a speech to develop an argument in favour or against a proposition, here that tourism is a bad (or good) for Japan.
Warm up the class with a brief discussion of where the best places to visit in Japan are, or where the students have been on their last school trip.
Give the two worksheets to the students. Get the students to read out the sample speech.
Get the students to write the answers to the 7 questions, about themselves and their opinions about the topic of tourism. They can use the existing samples or come up with their own statements.
Have the students read out their speeches in pairs or to the teacher.
Have the students close their books and give their speech from memory (with prompts from the students or teacher if necessary).
Record the speeches and send to their parents (if it goes well!)
